Hello Fairhaven! Having Graduated in 2006 with a degree in Sacred Music and in 2007 with a Pastor Theology degree, I waited on my future wife who graduated in 2008 with her Elementary Education degree. Shortly after graduation, April and I were married and settled in Allegan, Michigan, where we attend Faith Baptist Church and I am the Youth Pastor.
Our Family
Since marriage we have had our family grow by two as Allison is now 8 and Lauren is 3. April started off working at a daycare teaching 4 and 5-year-olds, but once Allison was born has stayed at home. Currently, April homeschools Allison and Lauren. Allison is doing great in school and loves her activities outside of school. She currently plays soccer in the fall and spring and takes horseback riding lessons as well as just starting piano lessons.
I currently work as Youth Pastor at our church along with working as a piano technician four days a week. Recently, we purchased about four acres of land and are going through the process of selling our current home and building on our new property. We are excited about the blessings God has shown us.
Our Ministries
April teaches Sunday School and Kids Club for the 1st-6th grade, works with the children on songs for kids’ choir, and helps me with the youth.
The youth in our church is one of our heart’s greatest burdens. Since starting to work with them, we have taken five Destination Unknown trips with the teens. These trips are a significant amount of work not just because of planning, but we also devote the whole year beforehand to selling candy every other Saturday to be able to allow faithful teens to financially afford the trip. We have taken bus teens with us on every trip so far, praise the Lord! Although these trips have taken us East, West, and South, our trip in June of 2016 had to be on of our favorites. This was a missions’ trip to Alaska. We traveled with Brother John Pinnix with Remote Alaska Missions (RAM) and had church services in a few remote villages which can only be reached by hours of driving and then more hours on a boat. It is truly a completely different world up there and has helped all of us to be more grateful for modern conveniences that we often take for granted.
As we continue with the youth, we pray that God may use us here at Faith Baptist Church. It is in a rural community where drugs are rampant. Ninety three percent of the kids attending the local middle school have smoked marijuana before they exit 8th grade, and Meth labs are happened upon often while out visiting. Along with the youth, I help with the music in our church and nursing home ministry and preach at the Youth Home (a detention facility for youth in our county).
We are truly grateful for those that have remained in contact with us and prayed for us since our years at Fairhaven Baptist College. God has proven Himself faithful to us over and over again!
God Bless, Jonathan and April Looman
